GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The West Michigan Edge won their second consecutive home game last night, defeating visiting team Toronto Lynx 2-1.
The win improves the Edge record to 4-3-2 (14 points), and seat them in third place in the Great Lakes Division, while the Lynx loss drops their record to 1-4-3 (6 points) to start their inaugural PDL season.
Toronto opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Murphy Wiredu notched his first career goal, but the Lynx were unable to hold the lead.
Edge forward Jake Stacy replied for West Michigan 8 minutes later to level the score and the teams ended the half even.
West Michigan came out strong to start the second half, and began to control play against a tired Lynx squad, who were playing their second game in three nights.
Stacy put away the game for the Edge in the 66th minute, slotting home a Tom Oatley feed to make the score 2-1. Toronto was unable to rally and the game ended in favour of the hosts.
The Edge will play at home again this Wednesday against last years PDL Champions the Michigan Bucks. The game will be held at 7:00pm at Kentwood’s Pat Patterson Field located behind Crestwood Middle School.
